Already at the helm of the Test team, Gill now leads India in two formats while continuing to support Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is. Previously Rohit Sharma’s deputy during the 2025 Champions Trophy-where India triumphed over New Zealand in the final-Gill’s elevation has sparked widespread discussion on social media.

The upcoming series also marks the much-anticipated return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to international cricket, as both have not played since the 2025 Champions Trophy final. Having retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup and stepped away from Tests before India’s England tour, it remains unclear if either will continue representing India beyond the Australia tour.
