The Tamil cinema superstar Ajith Kumar’s film Good Bad Ugly, which had already made a mark at the box office, has now run into a legal issue. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the film has been removed from Netflix due to allegations of copyright infringement.
The issue arose because the film used music composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja without permission. Known for rigorously protecting his copyrights, Ilaiyaraaja took legal action against the producers.
Good Bad Ugly, which released in theaters on April 10, 2025, was made available digitally on Netflix on May 8. However, following a restraining order issued by Judge N. Senthilkumar, the film was removed from the platform. The court order specifically barred the use of certain songs.
This includes popular tracks like “Otha Ruba Tharen” “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” and “Ilamai Itho Itho” Ilaiyaraaja had filed a petition demanding ₹5 crore in damages and a formal written apology from the producers.
In the lawsuit, Ilaiyaraaja stated that the producers used his music without obtaining permission or entering into a royalty agreement. Due to this legal action, the court directed Netflix to remove the film.
Currently, there is no official statement from Netflix regarding whether the film will be re-released with modified music or whether further legal discussions are ongoing.
