WhatsApp Rolls Out Built-In Message Translation on iPhone and Android

WhatsApp has begun rolling out a built-in translation feature for iPhone and Android, allowing users to translate messages into their preferred language directly within the app.

The feature, introduced yesterday, works in 1:1 chats, groups, and Channel updates. Users can activate it by long-pressing a message and tapping the “Translate” option to choose the source or target language.

At launch, Android users get support for English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic, with the option to enable automatic translation across entire chat threads. iPhone users can access translation in more than 19 languages right away.

While other messaging platforms have offered similar tools in the past, WhatsApp’s rollout brings the capability to billions of users worldwide, potentially making global conversations smoother. The company says more languages will be added in the future.
