Who’s In, Who’s Out? IPL 2026 Auction Could Change Everything

According to Cricbuzz, the IPL 2026 auction is expected to be held between December 13-15, though the BCCI is yet to finalize the schedule. Unlike the last two editions in Dubai (2023) and Jeddah (2024), this year’s auction may take place in India itself, say franchise sources.

The retention deadline is November 15, by which franchises must submit the names of players they plan to release. Early indications suggest limited major changes, except potentially for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals, who finished at the bottom last season.

Players reportedly on the release list include Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, and Devon Conway from CSK, who will enter the auction with INR 9.75 crore in their purse after R Ashwin’s retirement.

For Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson could be on the trading block unless a deal is made, while plans for releasing Sri Lankan spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana may change with Kumar Sangakkara returning as head coach.

Other players who may look for new franchises include T Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, and David Miller, though nothing is confirmed yet, including Venkatesh Iyer, last auction’s third most expensive buy.

The biggest buzz surrounds Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder who missed last year’s auction due to injury. Multiple teams are expected to aggressively bid for him, making him one of the hottest names in IPL 2026.
